Meghann Stephenson x Vacation

A series that spotlights the inspiring women who are building inspiring things.

Meghann Stephenson created Vacation when she & her partner Krys set out to update the most classic piece they could imagine; a leather motorcycle jacket. What started as a side project of one leather jacket, quickly evolved into the necessary endeavor of creating an accessible luxury line of men’s and women’s modern essentials. Besides creating a clothing line, Meghann is also a beautiful illustrator - check out her work here & follow her on Instagram.

Why did you start you start Vacation?

My partner, Krys, and I were having a hard time finding pieces that lived up to our expectations of what an investment piece should be in terms of quality, craftsmanship, design and price. We wanted clothing we could and would wear forever.

What was your most exciting day as a founder? What happened? Why was it the best?

Definitely Launch Day! We had been working so hard on the collection for a long time, making sure every piece lived up to what we had imagined. We put the finishing touches on the website, ordered a bunch of Chinese food, launched at midnight and woke up to a glowing article on Refinery29. It felt like the culmination of all our hard work, but also just the beginning.

What is your biggest struggle in the hustle? (Be honest!)

Trying to break into the $14 Billion a year denim industry as a new, small company while also doing things differently than the competition. It's tough to get consumers to find and trust a new brand.

What is the item on your to do list that you wish you never had to do?

If there was a brand/marketing/PR genie that would hand you one achievement, what would it be?

The best achievement in my mind is all the women I admire and am inspired by wearing Vacation and feeling amazing in it.

What is your favorite Instagram feed right now?

@purienne_! He's my favorite photographer.

What is an article you read / podcast you listened to recently that felt like the writer/host was in your brain?

I've been listening to a lot of Lady Lovin' lately. It feels like you're hanging out with your girlfriends, really leveling, talking about whatever is going on or what you're interested in. Then some incredibly inspiring women just happen to stop by and give you all the advice you could ever hope for.
